B42 Tools I Find Useful - 5. Predictive Index

Tools I Find Useful - 5. Predictive Index

A tool which i believe is grossly underutilised by organisations in India .

While there are multiple uses, I find it personally useful to understand
1)The behavioral changes a person is desirous of making ( Either driven by an intrinsic desire or an external expectation )
2) The degree of change that a person is attempting to make from his basic personality
3) The amount of energy and effort that is required to make the change
4) The probability of succesful change

Thankyou Nandlal Narayanan for training and apprenticing me with you on this tool in 2012 and for the clients including #axisbank #hsil #avendus who have given me the opportunity to impact using this skill.

B41 Tools I find Useful - 4. MBTI To Appreciate Differences

The MBTI has its fair share of critics .

I however find it to be a very effective tool in helping people understand and appreciate differences .

I use it in my work on "Conflicts " especially among co owners and people who work closely with each other , to prevent differences from escalating to conflicts.

People become more appreciative and accomodative when they understand and appreciate how they fundamentally differ along the four dichotemies that the MBTI is based on

The way they direct and recieve their energy
The way a person takes in information
The way a person decides and comes to conclusion
The way they approach the outside world

Disclaimer : Me nor my firm Aventus Partners have any financial interest in this Tool. https://lnkd.in/ftH5uCW

B40 "Maybe - A powerful word to overcome fears"

Many of us fail to realise what we are truly capable of professionally because of our fears.

We desire things but are held back by our fears.

I am learning that the only way to realising what we desire is to go forth and take the first step in doing what we fear, while fully being cognizant of all the voices that play in our heads.

For me it’s currently stepping forward and asking directly to people whom I want to work with.

For you it might be accepting to lead a seemingly tricky project in a domain/industry that you have never worked in.

Or might be asking for the fees /salary that you think is commensurate with the value that you add.

No doubt it still requires an equal measure of thought, preparation and loads of action to accomplish the larger goals you have set.

Telling yourself that “Maybe the fears and voices are not necessarily true “ helps you take that first step.

It’s been working for me!

B38 If Sharing ones authentic faces pays , then why the mask ?

If we intuitively know that sharing ones authentic faces pays in the long run especially in terms of trust, sustainable relationships and partnerships , why is that we are tempted to put on "desired masks".

Especially in the online space be it on Linkedin Profiles, posts ,face book updates ,twitter feeds.

Is it the opportunity that self publishing provides ? Or is it that by pretending to be what you are not you increase your chances of being one step closer to what you think you ought to be ? Or is it something else ...

I wonder ?

B37 Our future is created by the depth of our desires

Our future is created by the depth of our desires.

I read this for the first time in 1997 during a particularly difficult phase of my life and have kept going back to it over the years as its served me well.

You are what your deep driving desire is .
As your desire is ,so is your will .
As your will is, so is your deed.
As your deed is , so is your destiny .

B36 If you are feeling low

If you are feeling low, purposeless do simple things that matter to us as living beings .

A kind word ,an act of caring, love, genorisity, towards anyone( a family member, a friend ,a co worker, a total stranger, an animal...)

This will nourish their spirit and most certainly yours too.

B35 Consciously embrace every situation I find myself in as a gift- No qualifiers

6 months back I decided to experiment and see how it would be to “Consciously embrace every situation I find myself in as a gift- No qualifiers” obviously influenced by a lot of stuff I had been reading.

It wasn’t easy. But credit to me I have been disciplined in my experiment.

To detail one incident. A few weeks back I had gone fully prepared to "assess the impact of initiatives undertaken in the last 18 months ". 30 minutes before the session the client wanted it to be run in a format very different from the way I had prepared for. In my default mode I would have become defensive, argued why my approach was best suited for the situation and got stressed about how I was going to make changes at the last minute.

Given my resolve,I truly listened to his point of view, build on his perspective and quickly improvised.

No prizes for guessing. The session gave us insights that were qualitatively far deeper and sharper.

I am convinced from the results across contexts, the mundane and significant that this approach yields far superior results and impact.

Try it for yourself. Am sure you wont be disappointed!

B34 " People come to me because I give, and not because I take from them ".

I have to keep reminding myself that " People come to me because I give, and not because I take from them ".
In the process of my giving ,I get lots more in return .

Why is it so difficult for many of us to practise this naturally and just focus on giving something that the other values ?

B33 Be your own inspiration!

Every time you falter in your efforts at sustaining change, take encouragement from your past successes. I draw inspiration from my two significant ones - Having Successfully quit smoking 12 years back after having been a smoker for 18 years, and shedding 12 kg of weight and sustaining it for over 5 years now.

What’s yours?

B31 Proactively seek out and understand world views different from mine

30 years back Stephen Covey wrote “We see the world not as it is but as we are conditioned to see it”

Technology enabled targeted messaging and reinforcement has pervaded so much of our lives today , that the only truth we see is our truth.

To escape getting into #gridlocks of strong opposing #worldviews , I have realised I need to proactively seek out and understand world views different from mine and appreciate alternate perspectives.

I have set goals to this end and am actively meeting , listening to and reading people who hold worldviews and perspectives different to mine in the social, political and professional domains .

I might not be able to change the course of the world but I am sure my actions can cause a ripple in my sphere of influence !
